Nutrition Component
This is the largest portion of the Become The Whole Healthy You! semester. More than anything else over the last several decades, eating fake food has contributed the most to society's declining health. Fake food is a big problem and often labels are very misleading. Become The Whole Healthy You! allows students' to learn a wide variety of topics so they can choose healthy lifestyles in sleep, movement and nutrition. These topics were not covered in previous health curriculums. Take the time to discuss with your child what she is learning about.
Epigenetics
Students learn about our DNA, genes, and cells. Emphasizing that epigenetics, (lifestyle choices) either positively or negatively, impact our health. This section is also an opportunity to learn about bio-individuality. We are each unique, therefore there is not just one healthy choice that is the right choice.
Microbiome
Our microbiome is more than just bacteria, it is a whole mini ecosystem, so we want our mini ecosystem to be in homeostasis. Reducing toxins, processed oil, refined sugar, and processed food is imperative. We've been fooled by labels for too long. To be healthy we need to eat real food, not fake food.
Mitochondria
Students learn all about mitochondria and how to produce strong cells for a strong body. Eating nutrient-rich food for the body to produce enzymes is the way to treat our body right. It cannot be reinforced enough that we need to say no to fake food!
Family Discussion Questions
- What are our family genes or family traits?
- Because of epigenetics, how will we be the same or different as other family members?
- How can proper sleep, positive thoughts, exercise, being outside in nature, uptraining parasympathetics, and feeding our body nutrient-rich food each minimize chronic inflammation?
- Can we likewise explain why limited sleep, negative self talk, scrolling through our phone alone in our bedroom, being stressed, and eating processed food all contribute to chronic inflammation?
- How do we know if the food we eat is healthy within our own bio-individuality?
